Born in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, Esmeraldo Abalde is a contemporary self-taught artist whose works are focused on the image of the city with character and an interesting play of light: portraying the positivity or dynamic energy of a busy streets or crowded sidewalks on the weather conditions in a particular scene in impressionistic style. His paintings of figures and landscapes are inspired by the individuality of people, beauty and nature around him. Esmeraldo graduated from Capitol University in 2012 and he is currently working at Capitol University Medical Center in Financial Management Department. He was Philippines’ representative at 18th Asian Art Biennale 2018 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. For the past few years, he took part of various competitions and groups exhibitions in Cagayan de Oro City as a Cagayan de Oro Arts Guild artist and received various awards including LAMBAGO Art Award from National Commission for Culture and the Arts through Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts.
